Breastfeeding Support After a Haemorrage

I gave birth to my beautiful daughter Jeevaa in July 2021. I had a great pregnancy and knew I wanted to try and exclusively breastfeed. When it was time for me to give birth I had some complications and lost a lot of blood. As soon as my daughter was born I had to be rushed to theatre which meant I was unable to breastfeed for a few hours.

The next few days were so tough as Jeeva was not feeding the way she should have. She was only latching onto one breast and wasn’t having enough milk. It was only later once I met Shaheda that I was told because I had lost so much blood it would take longer for my milk to come. I was never told this at the hospital and was giving up hope of breastfeeding. I was also given conflicting advice by the midwifes and felt so helpless. I thought I had no choice but to formula feed.

Shaheda was a god send, once I met her she helped me so much and within literally minutes managed to help my daughter latch onto the breast the midwifes spent almost 4 days trying to do. What I learnt from Shaheda in the space of just five minutes I hadn’t managed to learn from the midwifes at the hospital in 5 days. I am so grateful our paths crossed as not only had I received so much guidance but I received a friend for life. I honestly don’t think I would have been able to exclusively breastfeed my daughter if I hadn’t received help from Shaheda. Her reassurance and education got me to my feeding journey today and now my daughter is happy, thriving and so healthy. What more does a mother want!
